Attorney Trish K. Murphy is the founder and principal of Northwest Workplace Law PLLC in Seattle, Washington. Ms. Murphy has more than 28 years of experience in labor and employment law and currently devotes the majority of her practice to independent workplace and Title IX/campus investigations.
Ms. Murphy has conducted over 300 investigations, spanning a broad range of claims, parties, and industries. She is an Association of Workplace Investigators certificate holder (AWI-CH), a certified Title IX/civil rights investigator, and a licensed attorney and private investigator in Washington and Oregon.
Ms. Murphy's background includes representing employers, employees, and unions and serving as a neutral for a civil rights enforcement agency. Her experience includes a wide spectrum of employment law issues, labor arbitration and unfair labor practice cases, and over a decade serving as chief spokesperson in labor negotiations. She also has served as a Contributing Editor for the American Bar Association’s Bloomberg BNA labor law treatise, The Developing Labor Law, since 2015.
Ms. Murphy is an active member of the King County Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section (Chair, 2013-14; Trustee, 2008-17; Member 2001-present), the Planning Committee of the Pacific Coast Labor and Employment Law Conference (Chair, 2013; Subcommittee Chair, 2007-18, 2019-21, 2022-23; Member, 2002-present), and the Mary Ellen Krug Scholarship Committee (Chair, 2009-17; Member, 2003-present).
A 1993 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Washington, Ms. Murphy returned to her alma mater and obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Washington School of Law in 1996. While in law school, she served as an editor for the school's law review, and she received the Mary Ellen Krug Award for excellence in labor and employment law.
