Sabrena Olive Gillis

With nearly three decades of legal experience under her belt, Sabrena A. Olive Gillis has been a cornerstone at Shaffer & Shaffer, PLLC, in Charleston, West Virginia, since 2005. Her journey through the legal landscape includes deep dives into insurance coverage cases, tackling insurance bad faith issues, navigating complaints before the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner, and delving into construction and engineering law. More recently, she has also ventured into the realm of equine law. She is continually inspired by the strength and bravery of West Virginians as they confront life's challenges.

Renowned for her keen ability to guide clients through the complexities of civil litigation, Ms. Gillis has successfully taken numerous cases to verdict. Her courtroom prowess extends to administrative hearings on insurance issues, which mirror the structure of trials. She places a strong emphasis on building solid relationships with her clients and fostering a collaborative environment. Ms. Gillis' aspiration to become a lawyer took root in her early years, inspired by a prominent female attorney in her hometown of Williamson, West Virginia, whom she admired since grade school. She graduated with a B.A. summa cum laude from Marshall University in 1992. She earned her J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1995, where she was an active member of the Moot Court Board. She is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia.

A respected member of the legal fraternity, Ms. Gillis actively participates in the West Virginia State Bar and the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia. Her dedication and skill have earned her a Distinguished* rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
