The founder of Barney Law PLLC, Mark Barney divides his practice among personal injury litigation and criminal defense. His firm is located in Hurricane, Putnam County, West Virginia, and he represents clients throughout the state.
Mr. Barney majored in both psychology and sociology at West Virginia University. After obtaining a Master of Arts in sociology from the same institution in 2003, he enrolled at West Virginia University College of Law, being awarded his Juris Doctor in 2006. After graduation, Mr. Barney was a law clerk for a judge in the 29th Judicial District of West Virginia. Thereafter, he served as an Administrative Law Judge with the West Virginia Public Employees Grievance Board before entering private practice. Admitted to practice in West Virginia, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
Mr. Barney represents people who have been harmed due to the negligence of other parties in cases involving automobile crashes, premises liability, and coal mine and other workplace accidents. He has successfully obtained significant amounts of compensation on their behalf through settlements that he has negotiated out of court as well as through jury awards at the conclusion of trials. Mr. Barney’s criminal defense clients are people who are facing misdemeanor or felony charges, ranging from driving under the influence to domestic violence to homicide.
