Robert G. McCoid is the principal attorney in McCoid Law Offices, PLLC, located in Wheeling, West Virginia. Focusing his practice entirely on litigation, he represents clients throughout West Virginia in criminal and civil actions before state and federal courts. In addition to defending murder indictments and other serious felonies, including sexual assault, robbery, weapons charges, malicious wounding and drug conspiracies, Mr. McCoid handles civil rights claims for damages caused by false arrests and excessive force committed by law enforcement personnel.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the School of Public Affairs at American University, Mr. McCoid earned his Juris Doctor from West Virginia University College of Law in 1994. Admitted to practice in West Virginia, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. McCoid spent two years as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Ohio County, West Virginia, and this experience has given him a rich perspective in his criminal defense work.

In addition to his memberships in the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National College for DUI Defense, Mr. McCoid is proud of his service to the Public Defender Corporation of the 1st Judicial Circuit and his prior service as a director on the West Virginia State Bar Lawyer Assistance Board. He freely shares his knowledge and experiences with prospective members of the legal profession through his duties as an adjunct professor of criminal law at West Virginia Northern Community College where he has taught since 1995.
