Attorney Profile

A founding partner at Martinez & Ruby LLP, Cole Ruby focuses his practice exclusively on criminal defense matters at both the trial and appellate levels. From the firm's office in Baraboo, Wisconsin, he provides aggressive advocacy to clients in Sauk and Dane counties and other parts of the state. Mr. Ruby has been admitted to practice before all Wisconsin state courts since 2007.

Mr. Ruby's client base consists of people who have been charged by the state with having committed misdemeanor or felony offenses. In many instances, they have been convicted by juries at the trial level, and he works on their behalf to get those decisions reversed and sent back for a new trial or, in some cases, to get the charges dismissed outright. Mr. Ruby has had a great deal of success in this regard. Some of his positive results have been based on Brady rule violations or other misconduct on the part of the prosecution, while others have centered on ineffective legal representation at the trial level and the improper admission of evidence.

Mr. Ruby's trial cases have included violent crimes, sex offenses, and drug possession and distribution, and he has been able to obtain positive results here as well. He is a winner of the Martin Hanson Memorial Prize, which is bestowed by the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers only to those lawyers who have obtained acquittals in homicide trials. Mr. Ruby's successful track record and high degree of ethics have earned him other recognition from his colleagues as well, including a "Superb" peer review rating through Avvo. He is a 2007 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, and he is frequently asked to deliver presentations on topics related to his practice area.
