    Attorney Profile

Daniel Rottier is the President of Habush Habush & Rottier which has 13 offices located throughout Wisconsin. The firm is dedicated to the practice of personal injury law, representing clients injured through the carelessness of others. In addition to managing the firm, Dan handles complex medical malpractice and product liability cases. While practicing primarily in Wisconsin, his career has brought him to courts in 18 other states, and to the United States Supreme Court.

Dan grew up on a farm in West De Pere, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an undergraduate, where he obtained an honors degree in English. He also spent a semester studying at the United Nations. Law school followed at the University of Wisconsin, where he graduated in 1976.

His career began in an era where many more cases were tried to jury than we see today. By 1990, Dan had tried 100 jury trials and was the youngest fellow inducted to the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an organization whose membership is limited to 500 trial lawyers in the United States. In the same year, he was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates. Two years later (1992), he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers. He’s been certified as a civil trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocates since 1982, and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America for more than 25 years. His most significant honor was being invited to membership in the Inner Circle of Advocates in 2009. This group is limited to the top 100 plaintiff trial lawyers in the United States.

Dan has resolved eight medical malpractice cases for 10 million dollars or more. These include over-prescription of narcotics (12.1 million), incorrect contrast material (10 million), vagal nerve injury (10.1 million), emergency medicine error (25.3 million reduced by cap to 10 million), birth injury (11 million), surgical error (17.3 million), anesthesia error (22.5 million), emergency medicine error (10 million). He also resolved three product liability cases for over 10 million dollars: defective automobile roof design (15 million), bicycle component failures (13.7 million) and improper pipe rack storage system (20 million). Of these eleven cases, four were the result of favorable verdicts and no offer by the defense in three of the four.

He has served as president of the Wisconsin Association for Justice, as well as its educational arm, the Civil Justice Foundation. Dan served on the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice, Wisconsin Association for Justice, and the State Bar of Wisconsin, where he also served as chairman of the litigation section. In 2008 and 2019, he was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Wisconsin Association for Justice, being the first attorney to receive it twice.  He also serves on the Board of Visitors at the University of Wisconsin Law School. In 1991, he successfully represented a Korean War veteran before the United States Supreme Court in Molzof v. United States, insuring the availability of future medical funds for this army veteran.

Dan has taught trial advocacy at the University of Wisconsin Law School for many years, and is a frequent lecturer on trial practice techniques and the use of technology in litigation. He has been lead counsel on 88 cases resulting in awards over a million dollars, and eleven cases over ten million dollars, four of which were jury verdicts. Dan resides in Madison with his wife, Frankie.

    • “Dan's knowledge of personal injury matters extends to legal malpractice, medical malpractice and products liability. I benefit greatly under his tutelage.”
    • “Dan is the best PI attorney in Wisconsin, bar none. He is very skilled, works unbelievably hard, and gets tremendous results.”
    • “He is the best, hands down, for plaintiffs pi.”
    • “Dan gets the absolute best results for his plaintiff pi clients. He is a stud. He is tough and not afraid to try a case, and generally gets more than the case is worth because of the defendants' fear of going to trial with him against them. I know Dan had a domestic abuse incident recently, of which I do not know the particulars, but he is the best plaintiff pi attorney in the state, in my opinion.”
    • “Dan is very successful, having obtained some of the largest verdicts and settlements in Wisconsin over the past 20 years.”
    • “In my opinion, Dan is the top Plaintiff's PI attorney in the state, hands down. His record of verdicts and settlements speaks volumes.”
    • “In my opinion, he is the best plaintiff's personal injury attorney in the state.”
    • “Dan is one of the best in terms of getting results for his clients. He is a zealous advocate who is not afraid to try cases.”
