Jonathan C. Smith

Bringing more than 25 years of experience to Kohn & Smith, Jonathan C. Smith, a co-founder of the practice, is a well-respected criminal defense attorney. Based out of Milwaukee, Jonathan represents clients around the State of Wisconsin in both State and Federal Courts. His caseload includes all types of criminal charges, including drugs, sex crimes, white collar offenses and violent crimes..

Any criminal charge has the potential to jeopardize someone’s future. Mr. Smith is highly detail-oriented as he builds a comprehensive strategy to protect a client’s rights. Throughout the process, he remains in close contact with the people he represents so they are able to make informed decisions and feel confident about their case. He is always upfront and honest with clients when it comes to discussing options and mapping out a plan of action.

Adept in resolving matters without having to go to litigation, Mr. Smith is also a fierce litigator. Over the course of his career, he has successfully taken a number of cases to trial involving matters such as homicide, sexual assualt, domestic violence and DUI. In state, federal and appellate courts, he demonstrates a clear ability to dispute evidence and strike down a witness’ credibility.

In 1992, Mr. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from American University. He then went on to earn a Juris Doctor in 1995 from the Marquette University Law School.

Mr. Smith is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Criminal Law Section.
