Rebecca Coffee is committed to representing clients in criminal defense cases in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee Counties, and throughout the State of Wisconsin. As a partner in Mastantuono & Coffee, S.C., she focuses her practice on criminal investigations and criminal cases of all types in state and federal courts.

After she earned her undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Ms. Coffee went on to receive her law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2002. Early in her career, she worked for the American Bar Association's Death Penalty Representation Project, providing resources and policy support for attorneys handling death penalty cases.

Since joining Mastantuono & Coffee in 2005, Attorney Coffee has gained recognition as a leader in the criminal defense bar. She has won an impressive string of consecutive jury trial acquittals, utilizing an effective combination of trial skills and preparation, and personal credibility with jurors. A persuasive negotiator, she consistently reaches innovative settlements for her clients. Attorney Coffee has represented clients in several high profile cases involving firearms and gun related legal issues, including concealed carry prohibitions (CCW), open carry, Castle Doctrine, and property return. 

Ms. Coffee serves on the board of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She is a former board chair and current board member of the Wisconsin State Bar's Criminal Law Section. She is active in the legal community, sharing her expertise in criminal law pracice with others through publishing articles and speaking before such groups as the Wisconsin Association for Justice, and the WI State Public Defender Conference.   • Village of Plesant Prairie Municipal Court – Operating While Intoxicated (2011): Bench Trial Not Guilty.  Client accused of OWI after found passed out in vehicle. Court dismissed cased at trial following successful argument that client had not driven vehicle, 2011
  • Milwaukee County - Sexual Assault, Second Degree (2015): Jury Trial Not Guilty. Client accused of sex assault by force following business conference social activity. Jury returned a not guilty verdict after three-day trial, at which the defense successfully established that, in truth, a consensual sexual encounter had occurred and that the accusation lacked credibility (co-chair w/C. Mastantuono), 2015
  • Milwaukee County - 3rd Degree Sexual Assault (2016): Jury Trial Not Guilty. Client, an aspiring professional photographer, was accused of sexually assaulting a model during a photo shoot. Jury returned a not guilty verdict after 15 minutes of deliberations following two days of trial, during which the defense successfully argued that the complaining witness was not credible and her allegation was not plausible. Client, a college student who had strongly maintained his innocence throughout the case, will now be allowed to move forward with his life.
  • Milwaukee County – Recklessly Endangering Safety of Another (2009): Jury Trial Not Guilty. Client accused of firing a gun and striking someone during a melee. Defense successfully argued that client was not the shooter, resulting in jury acquittal on all charges, 2009
  • Milwaukee County – Carrying Concealed Weapon (2012): Jury Trial Not Guilty. Client charged with concealed carry for openly possessing a firearm on a hip holster during a police traffic stop of her car. Jury returned not guilty verdict following two-day trial, 2012
  • Milwaukee County - First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child (2016): Jury Trial Not Guilty. Client falsely accused of inappropriately touching his adoptive son, a special needs child with mental health issues and cognitive delays. Jury returned a not guilty verdict following five days of testimony during which the defense challenged a biased and flawed investigation, and suggestive interview tactics by State child forensic interviewers.
  • Burnett County – Intentional Homicide (2009): Evidence Suppressed, Case Dismissed. Client charged with homicide in a self-defense case after using his firearm to shoot intruder who broke into his home. Defense moved for dismissal after Sheriff's Department lost crucial evidence. Case dismissed prior to trial, decision affirmed by WI Court of Appeals at 2010 WI APP 69, 2009 (co-chair w/C. Mastantuono), 2009
  • Washington County – Resisting an Officer (2012): Jury Trial Not Guilty. Client charged with resisting officers during police arrest of client’s son in her home. Not Guilty verdict returned following three-day trial, 2012
  • Milwaukee County - Misconduct in Public Office & Bribery (2012): Jury Trial Not Guilty. County Supervisor accused of accepting cash payment for official act. Client acquitted by Milwaukee County jury following a weeklong trial and extensive investigation and preparation in high-profile case (co-chair w/C. Mastantuono), 2012
