Over the course of his distinguished career, he has tried more than 140 cases to verdict—an achievement matched by few. His broad trial experience includes police shootings and civil rights violations, sexual abuse, serious personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, insurance bad faith, employment matters, and general negligence.
John has been honored with numerous accolades for his legal excellence. He has been named “Trial Lawyer of the Year” by both the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles and Verdictum Juris, listed among the Top Plaintiff Attorneys in California by the Los Angeles Daily Journal, and recognized as a “Super Lawyer” every year since 2004, including over a decade on the Top 100 and Top 10 lists. LAWDRAGON has repeatedly named him one of The 500 Leading Lawyers in America, and in 2022, he was inducted into the Lawdragon Legends.
In June 2024, he was appointed as the 2024 Civil Advocate from the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (ASCDC), the foremost association for defense attorneys in Southern California. The Civil Advocate award is presented to the individual, regardless of whether representing plaintiff or defendant, who has contributed to the profession through principled direction and preservation of the civil jury system.
John is a Diplomate of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Attorneys, both invitation-only organizations recognizing the nation’s most accomplished trial lawyers. He also serves on the Board of Governors for the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, where he has been an active member since 1985.
A graduate of Ohio University and the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, John focuses his practice on catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, insurance bad faith, and civil rights matters. His courtroom successes include securing numerous multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements, such as a $57.5 million verdict in an insurance bad faith case involving an aviation accident and a $14.4 million verdict in a negligence case involving an improperly serviced asphalt truck.
John holds a “Superb” rating from Avvo, an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America. Beyond his practice, he is a sought-after speaker at legal seminars and frequently contributes to professional associations including the American Association for Justice, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and Public Justice.
