Joshua Mangiagli

Joshua Mangiagli is a Denver eminent domain and condemnation attorney and managing member at Alderman Bernstein LLC, where he has practiced since 2020. He represents parties on both sides of property takings — landowners and businesses protecting the value of property the government seeks to acquire, and the municipalities, special districts, and utilities that condemn land for roads, pipelines, transmission lines, and other public infrastructure. Working both sides of these disputes shapes how he approaches each matter: he understands how the opposing case is built because he has built it himself.

His practice centers on the questions that decide condemnation cases — whether a taking is properly authorized, what constitutes just compensation, and how competing appraisals and valuation methods hold up under cross-examination. Much of this work turns on technical appraisal testimony and contested legal standards, and his task at trial is to make those issues clear and persuasive to a jury or commission. It is a skill he began developing before law school, as a middle school teacher, where the daily work was turning a complicated subject into something an audience could actually follow.

Josh grew up in Denver and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2018. There he was a member of the National Trial Team, served as an Associate Editor of the Denver Law Review, and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. He earned his undergraduate degree in political science, with honors, from the University of Vermont.

Josh finds it critical to give back to the community that has given so much to him. He coaches high school mock trial, helps fundraise for Metro Caring, and takes on pro bono work.
