Attorney Francis Patrick Murphy is a partner at Corboy & Demetrio in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Murphy has more than 40 years of experience representing Chicago-area plaintiffs in personal injury cases. He handles matters involving aviation accidents, construction accidents, deck accidents, premises liability, product liability, railroad accidents, automobile accidents and vehicular negligence.
Mr. Murphy has secured numerous multimillion-dollar settlements and verdicts for his clients over the years. He has been involved in high-profile cases featured on national media networks and has served as a legal commentator for Fox 32 Chicago.
Mr. Murphy has earned an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating with Martindale-Hubbell and the distinction of being named one of the “nation’s top one percent” by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel. He was also named one of the “top 500 lawyers in the nation” by Lawdragon.

Mr. Murphy received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and earned his law degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is admitted to practice in all Illinois state courts and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

- Obtained a $2.7 million settlement for the family of a 26-year-old man who died from injuries he sustained when he fell three stories as a result of defective metal deck railings., 2010
- Obtained a $2.15 settlement for a couple against the owners of an apartment building for the injuries they sustained when they fell four stories after a porch railing collapsed. The couple were standing on the outside back porch of an apartment building leaning against the wooden guard rail when the rail pulled away from the porch frame and they fell to the ground. , 2008
- Obtained a $2.5 million settlement for a 49-year-old Palos Heights woman, on the third day of trial, for negligent maintenance of a bike path. While she was riding on a bicycle path, her pedal hit a stop block in the middle of the path and she landed on her head, breaking her neck.
- Obtained a record-high settlement of $2.5 million for the death of an 88-year-old woman was reached in pre-trial mediated conferences. While riding as a passenger in her daughter-in-law’s car, Sallie Lenn suffered a fractured neck when the car was hit from behind by another car.
- Obtained a $4 million record-setting settlement for a young adult woman who was injured when she fell two stories after a wood railing broke away on an outside porch in Chicago, Illinois.
- Represented 14 of the victims or victim’s family, the largest number of victims represented by one law firm, in a global settlement of $16.6 million in the Lincoln Park porch collapse. , 2003
- Obtained a settlement of $5.75 million for the surviving family in the death of a 41 year-old wife and mother of four caused by a Cook County Sheriff’s deputy. The woman was killed when the deputy drove in excess of 70 mph and through a red light, broadsiding her car. Although the deputy claimed to be responding as back up to a domestic disturbance, official records secured by Murphy proved the call was only for an unwanted suspect, which is a low priority call.
- Obtained a $6.8 million settlement on behalf of a 69-year-old woman and her 71-year-old husband, for the injuries suffered by the woman who was struck by a PACE bus on Good Friday. The woman was crossing Lake Street in Oak Park, Illinois, when the bus made an unscheduled turn. She fell to the ground, striking her head on the pavement. She sustained serious brain damage and is was confined to a nursing home, as a result., 1988
- Obtained a record-setting settlement of $25 million for the family of a businessman killed in the United Airlines Flight 232 crash landing at Sioux City, Iowa. The DC-10 plane left Chicago and was flying toward Philadelphia when it lost power in one of its engines and was forced to make an emergency landing at the Sioux City, Iowa, airport.
