Attorney Profile

Matthew Alan Frank is a trial lawyer. Fighting for the Little Guy (or Gal) is Matt’s mission. In the long run, this mission means working hard to shape the law to better protect the civil rights of vulnerable individuals from the whims of prejudice and power that too often pervade our workplaces. In the short run, Matt’s mission is to seek justice on behalf of his clients. He cares about and comforts them, listens to their stories, and works hard to make sure their voices are heard.

Matt pursues his mission with zeal as a member of the firm’s individual practice group. He represents people who are suffering the indignities of discrimination, retaliation, or harassment. Often they’ve been wrongfully terminated because of who they are: their race, sex, pregnancy, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or another protected identity like marital or familial status. Other times they’ve been wrongfully terminated because of their courage to do the right thing: whether blowing the whistle on illegal activity; opposing discrimination, retaliation, or harassment; or otherwise exercising their workplace rights. At all stages of representation—whether early settlement negotiations, motion practice, trial, or appeal—Matt has a track record of success on behalf of his clients.

Matt went to the University of Michigan Law School where he graduated with honors and was a Clarence Darrow Scholar. During law school, he vindicated the rights of vulnerable clients in a variety of legal settings, including: the Michigan Law School Human Trafficking Clinic; the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office; the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC); and the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Project (MiUI). At graduation, Matt received the law school’s Robert S. Feldman Award for outstanding work in labor and employment law. Following law school, Matt clerked for the Honorable Susan N. Burke in Hennepin County District Court.

In a former life, he spent several years teaching and pursuing a Ph.D. in moral and political philosophy at the University of Minnesota. Matt grew up dreaming of social justice and Olympic glory in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He still dreams of both.
