David Coale

David Coale's far-reaching litigation experience supports his consistent recognition as one of the top appellate practitioners in Texas. The only known graduate of both Harvard College and Allen High School (at the time, a small town on the far northern edge of the Dallas metro area), David approaches law with a practical approach that respects history and tradition. His varied practice has taken him across Texas and the world; for example, he has organized an international mediation in London, taken depositions in Mexico City, tried a case for a month in Nueces County, and defended a pay phone operator before a Tarrant County Justice of the Peace.

David is a member of the American Law Institute, a past chair of the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Texas, and a member of the governing council of the State Bar Antitrust Section. He is board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and serves on the drafting and grading committee for that certification exam. For two terms, David has been appointed to the TBLS Civil Appellate Law Exam Commission Service, which oversees board certification for civil appellate law in Texas. He publishes 600camp.com, a popular blog about commercial disputes before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. 

Before joining LPCH, David was in the leadership of financial services litigation at one of the world’s largest law firms, and was previously the head of litigation at a mid-sized Dallas firm. He clerked for Judge Patrick Higginbotham of the Fifth Circuit after graduating with honors from the University of Texas School of Law and Harvard College, where he won the national college debate championship.
