Kathryn C. Swain

Kathryn C. Swain is an associate attorney at McCandlish Lillard, located in Fairfax and Leesburg, Virginia. She practices in the areas of estate planning and probate, civil litigation, estate and trust litigation, and general litigation. Serving clients throughout Northern Virginia, Ms. Swain primarily operates out of the firm’s Fairfax office. Before joining McCandlish Lillard, she clerked for the Honorable Daniel E. Ortiz in the Fairfax County Circuit Court.

A native of Washington, D.C., Ms. Swain earned her undergraduate degree from James Madison University. During her time there, she began honing her oral advocacy skills through active participation in the university’s Moot Court Association. She then pursued her law degree at George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School. While at her law school, she distinguished herself as an articles editor of The George Mason Law Review and served as the Vice Justice of the Moot Court Board. Additionally, she demonstrated her passion for legal writing by teaching classes to first-year students as a legal writing fellow.

Active in the legal community, Ms. Swain is a member of The Virginia Bar Association. She also plays a significant role in the Fairfax Bar Association, serving as co-chair of the wills, trusts, and estates section. Additionally, she serves as a board member of the Fairfax Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and is the chair of the Lobbying Committee of the Virginia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.
