Our firm, McCandlish Lillard, was founded in 1908, when F.D. Richardson started his legal practice in the small town of Fairfax, Virginia. Over the years, our firm has grown in both size and scope, now encompassing a team of over 20 skilled attorneys who serve across the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, including Maryland and Virginia. Our offices in Fairfax and Leesburg reflect our commitment to being at the heart of northern Virginia's legal landscape. Over the decades, our firm has expanded our services and skills across various legal fields, with a particular emphasis on elder law and special needs.

Our firm offers comprehensive legal solutions in elder law, helping clients navigate the intricacies of estate planning, guardianship, long-term care planning and other critical matters that affect the aging population. Our practice areas are diverse, comprising litigation, business and information technology, real estate, wills, trusts and estates, family law, taxation and personal injury/workers’ compensation. The historical journey of our firm is marked by significant milestones, including the partnership formation in 1942 between F.D. Richardson and Robert J. McCandlish Jr., which set the foundation for our longstanding presence in the region. After a merger with a larger regional law firm, which lasted from 1984 to 1995, we reestablished McCandlish Lillard as an independent entity, reinforcing our commitment to providing personalized and effective legal solutions.
