Lawrence J. McClafferty is a principal at McCandlish Lillard, serving as its president and a member of its executive committee. He operates from the firm’s Fairfax office in Virginia, serving clients throughout the state. Mr. McClafferty is a seasoned trial and appellate lawyer whose recent work focuses on business torts, community associations and fiduciary litigation, including will contests, breach of fiduciary duty claims and guardianship/conservatorship actions.
Mr. McClafferty was part of the litigation team that achieved the largest jury verdict in Virginia for 2016, as reported by Virginia Lawyers Weekly. His professional accolades include being named to Virginia Business magazine’s “Legal Elite” nine times. He serves as Commissioner in Chancery for the Loudoun County Circuit Court and is currently in a six-year term as a substitute judge for the 20th Judicial District.
Mr. McClafferty has also served as past president of the Loudoun County Bar Association and is a member of the bars of the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, the Virginia State Bar, The Virginia Bar Association, the Fairfax Bar Association and the Loudoun County Bar Association. His academic background includes a B.A. degree from Boston College and a law degree from Washington & Lee University.
