  • Most paralegals regularly interact with attorneys and clients during their careers. Some practices may involve more frequent and challenging relationship management skills, but these tools are necessary for all who interact with clients in a law practice. A challenging situation might arise because of the circumstances surrounding the client or matter. Issues surrounding challenging relationships include, but are not limited to, mental health problems, personality disorders, substance abuse, personal boundary issues, deceit and deception issues, clients who cannot regulate behavior, family involvement in case management, and more. Education and preparation for challenging circumstances with clients and attorneys is essential. We discussed recognition through issue spotting and proactive management, beginning early on. We also covered practice pointers to navigate difficult situations and actions to take to ensure successful management of relationships in legal matters., Author, Presenter, Family Law Case Management for Paralegals - Best Practices in Client Communication, NBI, 2025
  • Most paralegals regularly assist attorneys with interacting with clients and gathering documents. An attorney can delegate any task normally performed by a lawyer to a paralegal (except those tasks prohibited by law), if the lawyer supervises the work. Paralegals can review and organize client files, conduct factual and legal research, prepare documents for legal transactions, and prepare documents for depositions, trials, etc. Paralegals are integral to teams providing legal services, including by promoting cost-efficiency. Some practices may involve more technology, but basic knowledge of available tools and best practice for security is necessary for all who collect documents from clients in a law practice. Various practices require different levels of financial analysis. Education and training and attorneys are essential. We discussed common protocols and best practices., Author, Presenter, Family Law Case Management for Paralegals - Gathering and Analyzing Financial Information, NBI, 2025
