Details

Richard M. Stephens, a partner and co-founder of Stephens & Klinge LLP, is dedicated to helping residents of Seattle, Bellevue and Everett metro, Washington, with unparalleled services related to real estate, land use and zoning, environmental law, civil litigation and business law. He has defended his clients’ rights in court and before administrative boards in matters revolving around water law, regulatory reform, mining and initiative law.

Mr. Stephens has tackled several cases that raised complex constitutional questions with utmost care and professionalism. He spends time getting to know his clients and paying close attention to both the big picture and the details while advising them about their legal woes and helping them move forward. His clients appreciate his approach to handling their cases on a personal level, as opposed to just managing them as a case.

A 1982 pre-law studies cum laude graduate of Bob Jones University, Mr. Stephens was a member of Epsilon Zeta Chi society and the university’s intramural and intercollegiate debate programs. He then went to Pepperdine University School of Law and obtained his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1985. Apart from serving as an editor for the Pepperdine Law Review, he won the Vincent S. Dalsimer Moot Court Competition because of his involvement in the moot court program.

Mr. Stephens is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th, 7th, 9th and Federal Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Northern Districts of California, the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

An active member of The District of Columbia Bar, Mr. Stephens devotes his free time to the Westminster Chapel and the Sacramento Symphony. He received the Rodney & Laurel McFarland Award from the Citizens’ Alliance for Property Rights in 2011. Avvo has recognized him with a “Very Good” rating. While he has a distinguished legal career, he has written and lectured on a multitude of legal topics to share his knowledge with peers and future attorneys.
