Tony Rafel is a trial lawyer with over 35 years of experience. He is the managing partner of Rafel Law Group PLLC, an AV-rated boutique litigation firm with offices in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon. Mr. Rafel is a former lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and a past president of the Federal Bar Association of the Western District of Washington. Before starting Rafel Law Group in 2005, Mr. Rafel was twice elected by his peers to chair the litigation department at a prominent 60-attorney Seattle firm. Mr. Rafel represents clients in Washington and Oregon in a wide variety of real estate and construction disputes, including condominium construction defect and insurance coverage cases, and in other complex real estate, business and tort cases. He also serves as general counsel to many condominium and homeowner associations, and is an active member of the Washington State and Oregon Chapters of the Community Association Institute (CAI).

  • Tony is past President of the Federal Bar Association of the Western District of Washington, a former Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, a past member of the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group for the Western District of Washington, and a former Washington State Bar Examiner. 

Pro bono/Community Service:

  • Pro bono counsel to iLEAP, a nonprofit organization that provides training and support to emerging leaders in social change organizations through international fellowships and other programs, 2015
  • Tony Rafel represented Northshore United Church of Christ as pro bono counsel in a suit filed by the City of Woodinville over a tent city encampment.  The Church wanted to host Tent City but the City refused to accept its application for a conditional use permit.  The trial court and the court of appeals agreed with the City and rejected the Church's position.  In a 9-0 decision, however, the Washington State Supreme Court held that the City had violated the Church's constitutional right to freedom of religion and reversed the lower courts.  See City of Woodinville v. Northshore United Church of Christ, 166 Wn.2d 633 (2009).
