David A. Davenport

From BC Davenport in Minneapolis, Minnesota, David A. Davenport is a towering figure of leadership within his legal community and has counseled and advised many businesses in different industries, including manufacturing, real estate, retail, telemarketing, finance and banking, and has become the premier attorney for legal issues related to the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. He has helped community and mission-based nonprofit organizations, as well as real estate developers and sponsors, litigate related cases and in doing so, become the de facto leader in his field nationwide.

Mr. Davenport thrives under pressure, and his shrewd legal acumen and strong legal foundation help guide his clients through numerous matters of maximal complexity, striving to help the businesses and organizations he represents to create a secure future for themselves. In 2020, he represented a Florida-based nonprofit – Opa-locka Community Development Corporation – and achieved a major victory against for-profit housing “aggregators” that threatened affordable housing nationwide. The victory had major implications within the niche legal area, helping many good-natured organizations keep housing affordable for those who need it most. 

A 1992 B.A. degree graduate in political science from the College of Charleston, Mr. Davenport went on to study law at The University of Tulsa College of Law and received his Juris Doctor with honors in 1998. Obtaining his license to practice in Minnesota the same year he graduated from law school, he was also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the Minnesota Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the 1st, 6th, 8th, 9th and 11th Circuits. 

In his illustrious 25-year career, Mr. Davenport has garnered the adulation of his peers and many prestigious legal organizations, including the Minnesota Lawyer (Attorney of the Year), The Best Lawyers in America (recognized for his work in commercial litigation), Minnesota Monthly (2022 Top Lawyer in Minnesota) and Forbes Magazine (acknowledged as the Go-To Lawyer for year-15 disputes). In addition, he is also rated AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell, the organization’s highest rating.

Mr. Davenport is closely affiliated to myriad prominent organizations in an effort to progress the standard of service in his industry to his high expectations. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association and the National Council of State Housing Agencies. Furthermore, he holds memberships in the National Housing Trust Preservation Working Group, Affordable Housing Finance and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program.
